The challenge

A decade of acquisitions brought four established retail brands under one enterprise, but each continued operating with separate customer systems, financial platforms, vendors, and reporting processes.

Customer identities remained disconnected, marketing lacked a complete picture, and financial reporting lagged behind business activity. Duplicated technology investments added unnecessary costs, while leadership struggled to evaluate performance consistently across the portfolio.

The business had expanded, but its ability to operate with shared information had not kept pace.

The data foundation

Rather than requiring every brand to migrate onto a new technology stack, ShyftLabs established a common data foundation across the enterprise. The work brought together four core information domains

  • Customer data

Connected identities across brands to establish a consistent customer view.

  • Transactions

Standardized sales activity to support comparable performance reporting.

  • Products and inventory

Aligned product and stock information across different retail environments.

  • Finance and operations

Connected financial and operational records for more timely enterprise reporting.

A shared data core brought these inputs together through consistent data definitions, identity resolution, governance, and APIs.

What we built

A centralized data architecture that turns information from independent retail operations into consistent, enterprise-wide intelligence

  1. 01

    Connect

An integration layer brings information from separate retail systems into a shared data environment, reducing the need for disconnected reporting processes.

  2. 02

    Standardize

Identity resolution and common data definitions establish consistent customer records and comparable business metrics across all four brands.

  3. 03

    Activate

Governed APIs and continuously refreshed information support business applications, analytics, and reporting, enabling teams to work with reliable enterprise data.

The architecture preserves existing brand systems while creating a common foundation for cross-brand operations and decision-making.

The outcome

The enterprise moved from fragmented information toward a consistent view of customers, financial performance, and operations across its retail portfolio.

Marketing teams can now recognize customer identities across brands, creating a stronger foundation for coordinated personalization and engagement.

Finance teams have access to near real-time information instead of reports that previously lagged days behind business activity. Leadership can evaluate performance using consistent metrics rather than reconciling separate versions of results.

Consolidating overlapping technology and vendor requirements also reduced unnecessary complexity and lowered selling, general, and administrative costs.

Most importantly, the retailer gained the ability to operate as a connected enterprise while preserving the systems and independence of its individual brands.
